Your Results and Their Significance

To help estimate your risk of cardiovascular disease, the thickness of the first two layers   (the intima and media) of your artery is measured.  This CIMT thickness is compared to thousands of individuals of the same age and sex to find your CIMT percentile.  The 50 year old women with a CIMT of 0.790 mm is at the 84th percentile of 50 year old women.  84% of 50 year old women have a CIMT that is better, and 16% are worse.  In fact her CIMT is equal to that of the average 72 year old.
